Seaweed extract for your garden

Seaweed extract is one of those super foods that all gardening gardeners should regularly use in their gardens, but what is it?

Well there are many different types but in essence are liquid extracts made from algae. What I use is an Australian product and consists of a single species of algae that grows only in the sea around South Australia. This kelp can grow up to nearly 60 feet in height. You must remember that there are many other brands of extracts of seaweed and I'm not recommending a particular brand - only the concept and benefits of seaweed extract in your garden.

Seaweed has been used for centuries in gardens, so at least in coastal gardens, but it was not until the last 30 years that scientists have begun to understand why it is a useful product. It's not really a fertilizer, but will have a value food crops and especially vegetables. What it does is it helps to promote healthy growth and vigor in your plants, also helps to improve your plant resistance to attack by insects and fungal attacks also. It also helps to reduce stress in plants and this makes them more tolerant of heat and frost. The other thing about the product that use is that it is a balanced product which contains not only many trace elements but also amino acids and vitamins.

So, what is an extract of seaweed do for your garden? Well, you must remember that there is a plant food, but an additive that the water in your soil. It will help the plants develop better root systems and should increase the yield of vegetables as well as developing more flowers on plants. A balanced seaweed extract help your plants, helping to reduce attacks by sucking insects such as aphids and also reduce the fungal infection. Your plants should be better able to cope with heat stress and frost and is reported to be able to help plants absorb nutrients easier. As seaweed extract can be applied at any time of year, you can also extract algae in the water during the winter .......
