Custom head tags are critical to the E-commerce
An important feature to look for in ecommerce software is the ability to customize the head tag for each product page. This is important for search engine optimization, as search engines look to the information contained in tag head to ascertain the object of a page.
HEAD tags are often given the "meta tags" wrong name. This misnomer is only partially correct, because while the metadata is a subset of head tags, tags most important to which we refer are the title tag and meta description tag. The title tag is a tag of the head, but not a meta tag, description tag is a meta tag contained within the head tag of a web page source code.
The title and description tags are extremely important for search engine optimization. As such, it would be a grave mistake to ignore them. Unfortunately, the majority of e-commerce software available today will generate a head tag and description tag that is used throughout the site, regardless of the content of a particular page.
For example, suppose you sell clothing. We have various types of clothing on your site, shirts, blouses, pants and skirts. In a typical ecommerce software configuration, the system generates a series of title and description tags that are static throughout the site. In this case, the title tag might say something like: "clothes shop online." The description tag might read like this: "We offer quality clothing at affordable prices."
The problem is this: search engines rank pages, not sites, and if each of your product pages contain identical head tags, as described above, are losing visibility on search engines that you would want for any particular product. For example, the head tags may not be useful for the search engines for the classification of a product page for the term "blouses" or "man pants".
Therefore, an important feature of any search engine ecommerce system would be able to customize the data each for each product page. In this way, each page should contain specific information about the product inside the head tag, which would then increase the visibility on search engines for that particular product for relevant search queries.
In the example above, a product page buried deep within the software e-commerce was a blouse women attractive women should have the following custom head tags:
Title: "women blouse womens blouses shirts"
Description: "Hip, stylish and attractive woman blouse, perfect for business casual environment or a night on the town."
In this way, the search engines are provided much more information on the product in question. The customization of the head tag in this way would then allow the particular product page to appear higher in search results for relevant queries, such as "women blouse" or "women's shirts." Also in this case, it is important to remember that search engines rank pages, and not sites, then each page particular product should be optimized for the contents of that page .......
